Planning a multi-day ride: examples from real offers and eight questions

A multi-day ride costs not only more time, it needs different questions than a day ride.

From two days in the Andes to a week in Tuscany: what the providers name, what you must clarify.

Examples from our selection

  • Andes near Mendoza. One provider names a multi-day ride in the Andes with experienced gauchos, another a ride with a night under the open sky, in a tent or in a hut.
  • Sierras of Córdoba. Multi-day ride with country life, meals, music and gaucho dances.
  • Rhodopes, Bulgaria. Private multi-day ride, tailored to level.
  • Rila, Bulgaria. Multi-day ride from Sofia with transfer, overnight stay, meals, saddle and guide.
  • Carpathians, Romania. Multi-day ride over the ridges of the Bucegi Mountains, mountain lodges, for experienced riders.
  • Loire, France. Multi-day ride from Chambord to Chenonceau with hotels and starred restaurants.
  • Tuscany. The multi-day rides of Tuscany are near Montieri.
  • Chile. Near Pucón one card names a ride with camping in the mountains over two days.

What changes over several days

  1. Hours in the saddle per day. The provider does not always name them. Ask for the hours per day and for breaks.
  2. Level. A provider in the Carpathians names the tour for experienced riders who like long days in the saddle. A day ride says little about how you will experience the third day.
  3. Weight and luggage. Ask about the weight limit in kilograms and whether luggage is transported.
  4. Accommodation and meals. Tent, hut, hotel or open sky; what is in the price (providers often name meals).
  5. Care of the horses. Ask how many horses are available per guest and when the horses rest.
  6. Weather. Several days means more weather. Ask what happens in rain, cold or thunderstorms.
  7. Group and guide. How many guests, how many guides, and who accompanies in an emergency?
  8. Cancellation. Until when is it free, and what applies if you stop after the first day?
