Day ride or multi-day ride: how to decide
A ride of two hours and a ride of two days are two different bookings.
How rides of one hour, day rides and rides with an overnight stay differ and which questions count before a multi-day booking.
Three forms
Ride of a few hours. It is the most common form in our selection, with aperitif, wine tasting or sea views. You are back the same day. Day ride. With lunch or picnic, for example near Florence or near San Gimignano. A ride with a camping overnight at Lake Pchelina near Sofia in Bulgaria. A multi-day offer in Tuscany near Montieri with two to seven days.
How many offers there are
The booking portal Book Horse Riding Holidays, whose country lists we show on our Reiterferien page, names between 64 and 388 offers per filter, for trail riding as well as riding weekends (as of 4 October 2026). Viator lists riding holidays in many countries, mostly in Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Argentina and Georgia. The portal figures show the size of the supply, not quality.
What is different over several days
On a multi-day ride you carry more responsibility for your own prerequisites: several days in the saddle demand more fitness and precise information on weight and experience (see the guides on riding level and weight limits). The accommodation is part of the programme: lodge, tent or hut. The provider arranges luggage and meals. The weather matters more because you cannot sit it out in one afternoon. Conditions differ at Lake Pchelina and in Banff from those in Tuscany; weather values belong on the respective region page.
Questions before a multi-day booking
- How many hours a day are you in the saddle, and how are the days divided?
- Where do you stay overnight (lodge, tent, hut) and what is included?
- Who transports luggage, and how much may you bring?
- Do you get a fixed horse or does it change?
- Which level and weight limit apply, and how is it checked?
- What happens in rain, storm or injury of a horse or rider?
- From which group size does the ride start, and what happens on cancellation?
- Until when is cancellation free, and what does it cost afterwards?
